Audubon International

Here at Mansfield National Golf Club, we strive to be good stewards to the environment. As part of a company wide campaign with EAGLE Golf, we are heading towards certification as an Audubon International Cooperative Sanctuary. What this means is that we are making a conscious effort to efficiently apply and reduce the amount of water consumed, reduce the amount of chemical usage, establish and maintain native vegetation which in turn provides a safe haven for wildlife. As everyone knows as more areas become developed the existing wildlife is forced from it’s home. At Mansfield National we provide brush piles, bird houses and leave dead trees, in areas that pose no hazard to our patrons, for our wildlife to use as shelter. There have been no spray zones created. The vegetation along water ways has been grown up to act as a natural filter to protect against trash and sediments from entering the waterways. It is important to us that the water be cleaner when it leaves the course than when it entered. We feel our duty to provide a sustainable green space that can be enjoyed by our patrons, serve as a refuge for wildlife and be as environmentally sensitive as possible.

We have several projects planned to expand our wildlife habitat program. We are always seeking volunteers for data collection on the various bird species that use the property throughout the year as well as assist in our many projects. There are also plans to expand our native grass usage to further reduce water consumption. As you make your way around the course you will notice the use of native plant species in our landscape that virtually need no water at all.

In the future we hope to work with some local schools for projects and data collection. This also allows the youth in the community to be aware that anyone can  “Deliver the Difference.” With any luck at all maybe we can work with the local schools to help them certify their school yard. Homeowners can also get involved at the course and at your home. Audubon International has a program for everyone and I encourage you to follow our link to their website to learn more about what we are doing as well as what you can do.

If you have an interest in serving on our advisory council, conducting bird surveys or helping with any future projects please do not hesitate to contact us. You may contact Earl Snowden, Golf Course Superintendent at esnowden@eaglegolf.com or call the golf shop and inquire about how you can help EAGLE Golf and Mansfield National “Deliver the Difference.” Ph. 817-477-3366
